# Proper Cleaning & Aftercare for Lash Extensions

## Clean Lashes Are Long-Lasting Lashes

You've just walked out of Masha Lash with the most gorgeous, fluttery lashes you've ever had. Now comes the part that decides whether they still look that good two to three weeks from now: how you clean them at home.

Cleansing is the single most skipped step in lash aftercare, and it's the one that matters most. Your lash line naturally produces sebum (oil) all day long. Add makeup, sunscreen, sweat, dead skin, and dust, and you get a film along the base of your extensions. That film does three things: it slowly breaks down the cyanoacrylate adhesive that holds your extensions on, it makes lashes look clumpy and grey, and it feeds bacteria and \*Demodex\* mites, which can lead to red, itchy lids (blepharitis).

The fix is simple, takes 60 seconds, and only needs two things: the **Masha Lash Bath Cleanser** and the **Masha Lash Brush**.

## Your Two Essentials

\### Masha Lash Bath Cleanser

A gentle, oil-free, extension-safe foaming cleanser formulated for the delicate eye area. Because it's oil-free and pH-balanced for the lash line, it lifts makeup, sebum, and debris without attacking the adhesive bond the way facial oil cleansers, micellar waters, or bar soaps do.

\### Masha Lash Brush

A soft-bristle brush made to work \*with\* the foam. The bristles reach between extensions and along the lash line where your fingertips can't, so buildup is actually lifted off instead of pushed around. It also doubles as your daily grooming brush to keep fans separated and fluffy.

**Pro tip:** Grab the Traveling Brush too, and keep it in your bag for post-gym touch-ups.

## The First 24-48 Hours

Lash adhesive cures fully within roughly 24-48 hours. During that window:

- Keep lashes dry. No showers on the face, no swimming, no steam rooms, no hot yoga.
- Avoid steam and heat, including standing over a boiling pot or opening a hot oven.
- Hands off. Your fingers carry oil, and rubbing pulls extensions off the natural lash.
- Sleep on your back if you can. A silk or satin pillowcase reduces friction if you can't.

After that first 48 hours, start cleansing. Waiting longer doesn't protect your set — it just lets buildup get a head start.

## How to Wash Your Lashes: Step by Step

Do this **every night**, and again after any workout or heavy sweat.

1\. Remove face makeup first, away from the eyes.

Cleanse the rest of your face with an oil-free cleanser, working downward and stopping at the cheekbones so nothing migrates up into the lash line.

2\. Wet your lashes with lukewarm water.

Cool to lukewarm only — hot water softens adhesive.

3\. Pump the Masha Lash Bath onto the brush.

One to two pumps of foam directly onto the Masha Lash Brush (or onto the back of your clean hand, then load the brush). Never pump foam straight into an open eye.

4\. Close your eye and brush in gentle downward strokes.

Start at the lash line and sweep down and out toward the tips. Work the foam right into the base — that's where the buildup lives. Use light pressure; the bristles do the work, not force. About 10-15 seconds per eye.

5\. Rinse thoroughly.

Cup lukewarm water in your hand and rinse until there is zero slip or foam left. Leftover cleanser is a common cause of irritation and clumping.

6\. Pat dry — never rub.

Blot with a lint-free towel or tissue. Regular towels shed fibers that catch in extensions.

7\. Fluff while damp-to-dry.

Once the lashes are nearly dry, run the Masha Lash Brush through them from mid-shaft to tip to separate fans and set the shape. A cool hairdryer on the lowest setting, held at arm's length, speeds this up beautifully.

8\. Rinse your brush.

Wash the Masha Lash Brush with cleanser and water, air dry bristles-up, and replace it when the bristles splay out.

## Your Daily Rhythm

**Morning:** One gentle pass with the Masha Lash Brush from mid-shaft to tip. This separates anything that crossed overnight and instantly makes your set look fuller.

**Evening:** Full lash bath as described above.

**After workouts, swimming, or crying:** Rinse with fresh water as soon as you can, then do a full lash bath at home. Sweat is salty and chlorine is harsh — both accelerate adhesive breakdown.

## Products to Use and Avoid

Use

- Masha Lash Bath Cleanser (oil-free, extension-safe)
- Oil-free, water-based makeup remover
- Water-based or gel eyeliner, applied above the lash line
- Lash serums applied to the lash line, not the extensions

Avoid

- Oil-based cleansers, balms, and makeup removers
- Micellar water (most contain oils or surfactants that weaken the bond)
- Waterproof mascara, and mascara on extensions in general
- Cream and cream-to-powder eyeshadows
- Glycol- and glycerin-heavy skincare near the eyes
- Cotton pads, cotton rounds, and Q-tips, which leave fibers behind
- Eyelash curlers and any mechanical pressure on the extensions

**Pro tip:** Read your sunscreen and eye cream labels. Oils in skincare are the number-one hidden reason for poor retention.

* * *

## Signs You Aren't Cleansing Enough

- Extensions looking grey, sticky, or clumped together
- Itching, flaking, or crusting along the lash line
- Redness or a gritty feeling in the eye
- Retention that suddenly drops off between fills

If you notice persistent burning, swelling, or pain, stop and contact us — and never pull, pick, or attempt to remove extensions yourself.

## Regular Fills Complete the Routine

Even with flawless aftercare, natural lashes shed on their own growth cycle and take extensions with them. **Book a fill every two to three weeks** to keep your set full. Clean lashes also make fills faster and easier — your artist can bond to a clean natural lash instead of spending your appointment removing buildup.

* * *

## Your Cheat Sheet

**First 48 hours:** no water, no steam, no touching, back sleeping.

**Every night:** Lash Bath + Masha Lash Brush, rinse fully, pat dry, fluff.

**Every morning:** one gentle brush-through.

**Always:** oil-free everything, no mascara, no curlers, fills every 2-3 weeks.
